ACC Asia Peace Route

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Located in Gwangju, South Korea, the Asia Culture Center (ACC) is an international cultural organization that produces future-oriented results based on Asian culture. Rebel9 developed and designed the graphic identity of an AR peace education program titled ACC Asia Peace Route for ACC Teen, ACC’s youth culture and art experience program. This program defines the core of peace education as understanding conflict situations from various perspectives. The program introduces five disputes that have occurred in Asia, and participants follow the story of a fictional character representing the stakeholders of each case. The identity of this program uses a pattern of intense lines as a key visual. This pattern represents both the complexity of conflict and its resolution, much like how a tangled ball of thread can be untangled. As technology advances, AR markers become available in various forms, and Rebel9 developed an identity system that can be extended to AR markers. Patterns are automatically generated by variables, allowing for the results to be varied and applied into various forms such as outdoor signage, activity toolkits, UI interface design, and AR materials.

Design Principle
Program Scenario

DESIGN PRINCIPLE

PEACE ROUTE | A symbolic identity that uses linework to represent the Peace Route

AR EXPERIENCE | Auto-generated identities that function as markers to augment AR spaces

TEAM ACTIVITY | Tool design that induces collaboration and considers portability

PROGRAM SCENARIO

STEP1 Missing Words of Peace | Learning about the program scenario and disputes in Asia

STEP2 Collecting Words of Peace | Collecting missing words in AR-augmented rooms, referring to interview records of stakeholders in disputes

STEP3 New Peace Routes | Discussion based on questions about ‘peace’ and ‘conflict’, and restoring the Peace Routes

Key Visuals
Figures, which are an element of the identity system's key visuals, appear consistently as clues to disputes in the activity toolkit and AR app.

IDENTITY

The identity of this program uses a pattern of intense lines as a key visual. This pattern represents both the complexity of conflict and its resolution, much like how a tangled ball of thread can be untangled. As technology advances, AR markers become available in various forms, and Rebel9 has developed an identity system that can be extended to AR markers. Patterns are automatically generated by variables, allowing for the results to be varied and applied into various forms such as outdoor signage, activity toolkits, UI interface design, and AR materials.

KEY VISUALS

A tangled ball of thread representing conflict that can be untangled through its resolution

Five figures, representing five disputes

– CASE 1. Sri Lankan Civil War

– CASE 2. Refugees on Jeju Island

– CASE 3. Tiananmen Square Protests

– CASE 4. Rohingya Genocide

– CASE 5. Democratization of Indonesia

DESIGN SCOPE

We applied the identity designed with intense linework to the overall applications, so that the keyword of the program, ‘Peace Route’, could be reminiscent throughout. The identity has been extended to outdoor signage, activity toolkits, UI interface design, and AR materials.
